2024 SAYRA Qualification Process

The U.S. Adult Sailing Championship will be held September 26-29, 2024 at Detroit YC, Detroit, MI in Flying Scots.

SAYRA[1] (South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association) may submit one team for consideration to compete for the U.S. Adult Sailing Championship - Clifford D. Mallory Trophy.  The 2024 SAYRA submission will be based on resume selection, using the same criteria US Sailing will be using to make their final selections.

Submit sailing resumes to windykey@gmail.com no later than August 18, 2024

• Resume to include all expected team members’ relevant experience
• Teams must be comprised of sailors from SAYRA and be members of sailing organizations that are members of SAYRA, or individual members of SAYRA
• All team members and the clubs they represent must be current members of US Sailing
• The number of crew for the event shall be two (2) or three (3), including the helmsperson
• All competitors must meet the eligibility requirements specified in the Conditions, which can be found on the event website.

Please read the Notice of Race and be prepared to comply with all requirements if selected, before submitting a resume.

Resumes will be evaluated on the following criteria:

• 45% Sailor Criteria – How many major events have they competed in the past three years; number of races in these events, number of attendants
• 25% Class Criteria – size, diversity, depth and activity of class they consistently sail nationally
• 15% - sailors under 30 make up 25% of the team
• 15% - female sailors make up at least 25% of the team
• Bonus:   Additional 10% if a female is the helmsperson

Resume/application must include:  Name and US Sailing member number of each crewmember and their respective sailing organization, crew weight, and affirmation that helmsperson has reviewed and will comply with the Adult Sailing Championship NOR and associated documents (NOR 1.1.a-i).

The deadline for resume submission to SAYRA is August 18, 2024 at 2359 hours.  SAYRA team selection will be announced by August 22, 2024.  

The selected team must pay a nonrefundable $50 Application for Invitation fee with their application by August 24, 2024 (NOR 5.1.3).  US Sailing will notify selected teams by August 29, 2024; if selected, the entry fee and registration form are due by September 4, 2024. (NOR 5.3)

If selected for the Championship, the SAYRA team will be eligible to apply to the Helen Hanley Fund to support the costs of the Championship.  Financial support is not guaranteed and you must apply for this funding within 30 days after return.  Full eligibility HHMF details can be found at https://sayra-sailing.membershiptoolkit.com/HHchamp.
