2024 Around Oak Island Regatta : Cape Fear Yacht Club (regattanetwork.com)

After a five year hiatus, it is time to test the thickness of those hiking pants and your ability to apply sunscreen in the longest Sunfish regatta in N.C. Oak Island is 14 miles long and one mile wide making for a 28+ mile regatta.
The record time is 4 hours 57 minutes and 25 seconds held by local, Glenn Walker.
The race will begin and end near Safe Harbor Marina promising a gentle start down the ICW before it meets the confluence of the Cape Fear River and sailors turn toward Old Baldy on Bald Head Island. Sailors choosing to hug the coast will pass another lighthouse and two piers before making it through the narrow Lockwood Folly Inlet. The backside of the island provides a relaxing sail under two bridges and back to the yacht club for cold beverages and awards.
