From the helm...
I would like to thank everyone who participated in this year Annual Meeting and breakout sessions, while everything was virtual because of COVID-19; I believe the Leadership at SAYRA is strong and sailing is strong within SAYRA. The Annual Meeting did miss the social aspect of getting to meet and talk with others from around our region to see how they are handling things so we brought a best practice round table to this year’s virtual sessions; several have asked if we can that on a regular basis, the goal is to do three per year. Hopefully, we are back together face to face or mask to mask for next years AGM which will follow US Sailing’s National Sailing Programs Symposium in Savannah end of January 2022.
I would like to congratulate Bryce Dryden for the Willard Davis Service Award; and thank him again for his commitment and leadership for the past years. JD Rosser for his unyielding service to SAYRA and congratulate him for the John B Bonds Award. Also, both individuals continue to serve on the selection committee for the respected awards so thank everyone who keep rouge hidden from them. Congratulations also goes out to the LLSC Team of Cathy Freeman, Pat Finnick and Jeff Lehman for the B.I.M.B.O award leading the charge to make racing continue with tight COVID protocols.
The Helen Hanley Fund while it was different not enjoying the social aspect of the HHF Bloody Mary Fund raiser, I do appreciate Lauther Parker and the Charleston Yacht Club for kicking off the fund raiser and to all the club and individual contributions.
Stay safe, if I can do anything for you, or your club please reach out to me.
Sail Fast, Pete
