SAYRA Commodore Update 4-25-2020

SAYRA friends:

Recently I and others throughout the country had an opportunity to participate in an online Town Hall for yacht clubs which was hosted by US Sailing.  The objective was to have a forum to distribute information about ways that various clubs were dealing with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the programs and club activities.  The attendance was remarkable – over 600 participants at one point during the hour and a half conference.  There was excellent information shared, but perhaps the most important takeaway was that we’re all in this together.

I and other members of the SAYRA Executive Committee think it would be helpful to begin a similar conversations at a regional level.  Therefore, I’m happy to announce the following online conferences:

Tuesday April 28 at 7:30 PM – Martine Zurinskas is hosting a conference targeted at sailing directors in the SAYRA Region to discuss sailing programs to include updates on US Sailing Championships, various club summer programs and the summer sailing schedule. Invitation was sent to every club and program director that we had information for. If your clubs sailing program representative needs the invite - please email sailing.sayra@gmail.com

Tuesday May 5 at 5:00 – I and others will host a conference targeted at yacht club flag officers and other leadership to discuss overall response to the challenges of the pandemic.   The agenda is being developed, but I envision topics to include a brief on the April 28 meeting, discussion of steps that area clubs are taking, status of facility access, and rules enforcement among others.  To that end, please email me at robertkey@att.net with any topics that you think would be helpful to address.  I can’t guarantee we will get them all in because if there is one thing I’ve learned from a few online conferences, it’s that the agenda needs to be tight!  This should be a good time to share ideas and concerns.  Be on the lookout for an agenda and conference link information.

Look forward to talking with everyone!

Your faithful Commodore, Robert Key
