Greetings from the Helm,

I hope that you have planned your fall sailing as there are lots of great events on the schedule. Thank you to all the clubs and volunteers that keep the sailors smiling. Don't miss the chance to plan your clubs winter/spring training - Race Management Courses, Instructor Courses and more. Early bird gets the weekends of choice.  

Just as a reminder the SAYRA Annual Meeting will be held on January 30th in Savannah, Georgia. We are 'tagging' on to the ever popular US Sailing National Sailing Program Symposium January 27-29.  This Sailing conference brings together program directors, instructors, volunteers, parents and industry representatives to share and learn best practices with one another.  Example of the 2019 Schedule.

Good luck 2 SAYRA TEAMS at US Offshore Championships

2 teams from SAYRA will be competing at the 2021 US Offshore Champs at the Naval Academy September 24-26.  Fleet racing and one long distance race in Navy 44s. Unique event brings teams from all over the country to race. Eddie Evans and Team Naut on Call representing SAYRA/CORA/CHYC  along with Patrick Chisum and Team Ruckus Representing SAYRA/CORA/CHYC/JIYC competing in the US Sailing Offshore Championship later this month.  Event Details. Good Luck - Make SAYRA proud!

US Sailing Instructor Courses

AYC is hosting a Level 1 Instructor course the weekend of November 6-7, available to anyone 16 or older. There are several prerequisites, including a 2-week online course that must be completed by November 5. The online course requires weekend participation in Zoom classes, so you must register in advance. US Sailing ONLINE Reach #STEM Educator Course

The US Sailing Online Reach #STEM Educator course prepares you to teach STEM concepts using sailing as a learning platform. You will participate in live webinars, engage in meaningful discussion groups, and view Reach in action. Basic Race Management Seminar:  09/27-10/01

Basic Race Management Seminar:  10/11-10/15

These two classes are the ONLINE Basic Race Management Seminar which consists of three live 2.5-hour Zoom sessions from 7:00-9:30 pm eastern.  There is approximately 30-60 minutes of pre-course work required before each session. Attendance in all three sessions is required to complete and pass the course.  About five days before your course begins, you will receive an email from US Sailing inviting you to participate in the course. Please click the "Get Started" link to complete your profile and access the course materials.  Course fee: $38.  Registration link

US Sailing has posted over 20 sanctioned Safety at Sea Courses (in-person) on the calendar for 2021 with more being scheduled every week, including the Hands-On training for International Offshore Certificates. There is limited availability at these locations so sign-up today and you can prepare by taking the online training in advance. Low Country HOOK Race

The 6th Annual Low Country Hook Ocean Race is a distance race from Hilton Head Island, SC to Skidaway Island, GA. The race is open to all non-planing monohull sailboats having an overall length of at least 22 feet and not longer than 52 feet. The race is presented by Skidaway Island Boating Club and The Yacht Club of Hilton Head.

Lake Norman Board Bash

Welcome to Lake Norman Yacht Clubs 2021 Board Bash Regatta. We are excited to be part of the SAYRA Jr Grand Prix and the Laser D12 series. We're planning for two great days of racing with a Barbecue dinner Saturday night , followed by a screening of the film 'Celestial'. Info here: https://www.celestialfilm.org/. We have plenty of room for tent and trailer camping on the grounds. 420 Charters are available.

Pennisula Cup Lake Norman

The 29th Annual Peninsula Cup is one of the most exciting and competitive keelboat and one-design regattas in the region. This is Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club's annual signature sailing event!    This year's regatta offers handicap, one-design, and a first-time addition of a Parade Class [sail & power boats].  
For the two-day keelboat racing we are planning one day of course racing and one day of distance racing.   The lake is a very uniquely competitive venue to put your skills to the test. Come for the racing and enjoy all of the weekend regatta festivities including onshore activities, live bands, dancing, and the annual PYC Oyster Roast and Finish Line BBQ Buffet.   Looking forward to seeing you at the 2021 Peninsula Cup Regatta!

Augusta Halloween Regatta

ASC's 67th Annual Halloween Regatta October 8-10. We are excited to be part of the SAYRA Jr Grand Prix and the Laser D12 series, as well as hosts of the 2021 Sunfish Southeast Regionals. It will be a fun filled weekend with two days of racing, an incredible Halloween Costume party, and awesome camping. We look forward to seeing you there!
