SAYRA Notes July 2019

Thank you to everyone who is out supporting sailing this summer... volunteering on shore, on the water, supporting our youth programs, hitting the regatta circuit, sailing at your local club and most of all just enjoying sailing.

 Teaching & Coaching Fundamentals Online

Created through a partnership project with the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, Teaching and Coaching Fundamentals Online (TCFO) is a free, online course that merges the worlds of teaching and coaching. Launched this past spring, it's being implemented in a number of US Sailing instructional courses in 2019. All Race Administration Seminar Leaders, Instructors, Coaches and Instructor Trainers and Safety at Sea Seminar Leaders must have completed TCFO by December 31, 2019. or at their earliest re-certification point-- whichever comes first -- in order for their certification to remain valid.  CLICK HERE

US Adult Sailing Championship for the Mallory Trophy
SAYRA has endorsed a team organized and skippered by John Mellnik, of Lake Norman Yacht Club.  John and his team have not been actively campaigning in recent years, but are all excellent sailors anxious to get back to championship sailing.  (John has sailed in the Mallory twice, and his only over-30 crew was his skipper back in 2007, when John was 16.  Liz Chambers, also 16 at the time, sailed on the SAYRA team in the Adams that year.) John's team includes: - John Mellnik, Lake Norman Yacht Club, Mike Mergenthaler, Lake Norman Yacht Club, Elizabeth Chambers, SAYRA (formerly LNYC), Elisabeth Whitener, SAYRA (formerly LNYC), Carter Little, SAYRA. The Adult Championship will be sailed from Beverly YC, Marion, MA, Sept. 5-8, using J/80s.
Good luck TEAM SAYRA!

 2020 Sailing Leadership Forum

Registration is now open for the Sailing Leadership Forum.  The SLF will be held Feb. 6-8, 2020 at the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa.  Clubs should consider sending a representative to this conference, where there are many opportunities for networking, best practice sharing, and valuable information about what is happening with sailing in the US.  "Instructors, coaches, race officers, program directors, class/fleet leaders, yacht club management, organization leaders, and volunteers will find key takeaways from this pioneering event."  Find information and register at  https://sailingleadership.org/ .

Do you have something to present or discuss that you think would be of use to attendees at the SLF?  US Sailing is looking for presenters; https://sailingleadership.org/call-for-proposals/.
